Changes to the Forum...
Date:29-09-11

The Moderators Team (which consists of local Carers) have decided to make a few trial changes to our site.

We noticed that, though we had a variety of Topic headings, most postings were under the 'General Discussion' thread. For  a trial period we have changed the headings and redistributed Carers comments to, what we hope, are more relevant headings.

We're going to try this out for a few months. If you feel that your original comments have been put under the wrong heading, or you feel we're missing a theme, do let us know... It's your  Forum!

Torbay Care Trust, on behalf of a partnership of agencies, is now working on the next edition of "Measure Up" - Torbay's interagency Carers Strategy. Members of Torbay Carers Forum are invited to contribute to this plan through feedback on their experience of carer support and giving their ideas for improvement of carers services in the Bay. This is a chance to influence the future direction of carer support. Carers can complete the online questionnaire and give their views and suggestions. All contributors will be entered into a Prize Draw. ...  click here

Welcome to the forum

Kevin Dixon is a Carer from Torquay. In this short video clip Kevin explains how the idea to set up a Carers' web site came about and how he became involved in the planning and design of the site. He also describes how the site can become an important tool for Carers to use to improve their lives and the lives of those that they care for.

Guests can browse the website, however, only signed up members are able to use the forum and live chat features. Please feel free to register and become a member of the Torbay Carers Forum. We hope you enjoy the site and the benefits it will bring to carers in Torbay.

So, along with our meetings, we decided that a good way to reach out to Carers would be to have a web site which would allow us all to communicate with each other.

This will mean much larger numbers can be involved than those that usually attend meetings.

The Torbay Carers Forum website will by run by Carers and allow us to suggest subjects for discussion or questions to raise with agencies. It includes:

  • A Chat Room where we can discuss subjects identified by Carers, and possible online surgeries where agency managers are invited to respond to your questions

  • News including links to local and national media

  • Events including information on Carers groups, meetings and other local forums

  • Views and Voting. This is where Carers can make their views known - and even vote - on the policies that affect them and those they care for

One of the reasons for setting up the web site was to allow Carers to post comments and questions at any time. However, we want to make sure that Carers who were not used to using computers would not miss out or be excluded.
